John T. McCabe, born in Philadelphia on Flag Day, 1932, was a student of Master Gabriel Chin until he moved from Ann Arbor, MI to Sioux Falls, South Dakota twelve years later. Mr. McCabe obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania. At thirty, he entered the working world and for the next 22 years he established himself as a research engineer and raised a family, first in Philadelphia, then in Saratoga, NY. In 1986, he joined a Karate club in Saratoga and remained with the club for seven years leaving when employment lead him to Michigan where he joined a Judo club. In 1992 he met Master Chin. For 12 years he studied under Master Chi until he retired and moved to Sioux Falls, SD 12 years later. During his working years, Mr. McCabe was a Principal Engineer at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Director of the Engineering Department at Mechanical Technology, Inc. in Latham, New York, and Vice President of Technology at the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences in Ann Arbor. When he retired, he formed a small business to provide consulting services in manufacturing technology and to write on the subjects of Tai Chi and technically based fiction. Mr. McCabe is married, lives in Sioux Falls, and has six children with six grandchildren.
